Tropical Weather Update

Texas A&M University at Galveston officials continue to monitor Tropical Storm Barry in the Gulf of Mexico. At this time, campus will remain open for regular business on Friday, July 12.

Any additional decisions regarding the status of campus will be made in consultation with the National Weather Service and local emergency management. Should forecasted conditions change, additional updated information will be provided.

Please make note of updates to the following campus activities:

Sea Camp
Sea Camp closing ceremonies are being rescheduled to be finished by Friday, July 12 at 6:00 p.m. We strongly encourage families to pick-up their child Friday if possible. Saturday morning pick-up will continue as usual unless storm conditions warrant travel advisories. We will continue to monitor air travel and respond accordingly. If the storm is preventing you from safe travel, please notify the Sea Camp office at 409.740.4525 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., or 409.740.4759 after hours, to make arrangements to house campers in the residence halls beyond Saturday (please leave a message and a staff member will get back to you as soon as possible).

Campus dining services will remain open and operational. You and your child’s safety is our priority.

Check-in for July 14 camp remains as scheduled.

Summer Sea Term
The Texas A&M Maritime Academy’s Summer Sea Term aboard the T/S Golden Bear remains unaffected by this development. The ship will dock today in Ponce, Puerto Rico, well south of the tropical storm, and will remain out of its path for its duration. All ship events and tours will continue as scheduled. As with all marine-based activities, they are subject to last minute changes and/or cancellations due to any number of variables.

Any additional activities scheduled starting Friday evening and into the weekend, should plan to make alternate arrangements in the case of inclement weather.

Campus officials are preparing for all possibilities, and are in regular communications with local emergency managers and the National Weather Service. As always, our top priority is the safety of our students, faculty and staff.
