Texas A&M University at Galveston proudly conferred 68 degrees on Saturday, August 10 for summer commencement.
“It’s one of the greatest pleasures in my job to be able to congratulate each one of our graduates,” said Colonel Michael Fossum, Chief Operating Officer at Texas A&M University at Galveston and Vice President at Texas A&M University.
Commencement was held at the Aggie Special Events Center (ASEC) Ballroom on TAMUG’s campus. The building is the newest in a long list of building projects to meet the needs and vision of the campus’s future. This was the first commencement ceremony to be held in the purpose-built facility.
“I believe that having a graduation ceremony on campus is important to the students, in the location where we have worked hard, studied, made lifelong friends, and priceless memories,” said Eric Amason, a graduating Maritime Administration major and former Yell Leader. “We have beautiful facilities, and I think it’s an amazing blessing to begin and finish one’s college career and experience in the heart of campus.”
Friends, family, and fellow Aggies were on hand to congratulate the graduates, though many of our Cadets were still at sea aboard the TS Golden Bear and thus unable to be on campus in person. Those who were not lucky enough to attend are able to watch the ceremony live-streamed.
"The character these graduates have shown to get to this point is part of what makes them an Aggie, and our campus is better having known them,” said Col. Fossum. “Now they get to bring that work rate, knowledge, and fabled Aggie Spirit to the rest of the world. Thanks, good luck, and Gig ‘em.”
