During challenging times such as these, we are reminded more than ever that our traditions and values are what identify and unify us as Aggies. In that spirit, we’d like to ask you to join us in participating in a virtual Galveston County Aggie Muster at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2020 via MusterLive.AggieNetwork.com. The Association of Former Students’ Worldwide Muster proceedings will begin at 6:51 a.m. CDT and we will post our video portion to our social media channels for all to see following the official airing.
Students and staff have come together to film a pre-recorded Muster ceremony featuring the traditional readings, the roll call, candle lighting, and a 21-gun salute. Col. Michael E. Fossum ’80, Texas A&M University vice president, Texas A&M University at Galveston chief operating officer and Texas A&M Maritime Academy superintendent, will give the Muster address.
This will mark the first time in its history that the university’s most sacred tradition will unfold as a mainly virtual event.
“The format doesn’t matter. The location doesn’t matter. All Aggies are Aggies, whether you’re on campus, in your living room, or aboard a ship in the middle of the ocean. It’s the fact that we’re all doing this together and honoring our lost by answering ‘Here’ for every Aggie on that Muster roll,” said Col. Fossum.
We are reminded that Aggies have Mustered annually despite world wars, natural disasters and other challenges. COVID-19 will now simply be added to the list of things that Aggies have overcome in order to exemplify our Core Values.
Learn more about the tradition of Muster and see the names that will be called during the Worldwide Roll Call.
Each year on April 21, Aggies around the world gather to honor their fellow Aggies who have passed on during the year. Muster is one of Texas A&M University’s greatest traditions and serves to bring Aggies together to remember and celebrate victories and defeats during their time as students. Muster is a time for all Aggies to unite in love and honor the memories of their fellow Aggies whose deaths prevent their answering the Roll Call during this moving event.
