AAPI Heritage Month on the Galveston Campus

April 3, 2023

Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month celebrations will be on campus all month long! Although AAPI Heritage Month is typically celebrated in May, The 1973 Center and Asian & Pacific Islander Student Association (APISA) at Texas A&M University at Galveston join other universities in celebrating it in April to allow students to have the opportunity to celebrate while still on campus.

AAPI Heritage Month is an annual celebration that recognizes the historical and cultural contributions of individuals and groups of Asian and Pacific Islander descent to the United States. In 1977, the United States Congress chose the first ten days of May to commemorate the history and contributions of Asian American communities here in the US. The week's observance later became a month-long celebration. The AAPI umbrella term includes cultures from the entire Asian continent—including East, Southeast, and South Asia—and the Pacific Islands of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia.
