Fall Career Fair Breaks Employer Attendance Record    

On November 2, the Fall Career Fair welcomed 117 employers to campus, bringing record-breaking opportunities for students to network with industry professionals. The career fair, hosted by the Office of Counseling and Career Services each semester, gives students the opportunity to talk with companies, universities and state and federal agencies of all industries. 

Eager to hire graduates from the Galveston campus, Sean Nichols, an ROV operator and Small Unmanned Aircraft System Pilot for Proceanic, says that the company has a vested interest in Aggies. "We currently have six Aggie Engineers on payroll and are always looking for more," he shared.

Proceanic, which provides engineering, project management and underwater inspection services to the offshore and maritime industries, touts that Aggies have been instrumental in the success and growth of the company, so Proceanic gives back to the university through their Endowed Engineering Scholarship, benefitting engineering students at the Galveston campus each year.

Many companies seek current students for summer internships or part-time positions. This mutually beneficial partnership helps students get entry-level experience while bringing fresh support for the company, and by investing in current students, these companies are investing in their own future. 

Other employers echoed Nichols in the need for Aggies in the workforce, with one adding that the pillars of the university are what draw the company to Galveston graduates. 

"At Chevron, we really appreciate the Aggie Core Values of Texas A&M," said Jordan Davis '22, a former student who interned at Chevron Shipping Company and is now a Demurrage Specialist for the company. "The people that come from A&M-Galveston are already incorporated with our values, and graduates, especially maritime business majors, translate really well into our shoreside operations." 

Before the career fair, to help students prepare for the career fair and beyond, the Counseling and Career Services department offers resume and cover letter assistance and interview preparation. That dedication is apparent to the participating employers.  

 "While we were wrapping everything up after the fair, several employers let me know how impressed they were with our students, which really speaks to the quality of education received at A&M Galveston," said Maya Sandy '22, the career services coordinator for the Galveston campus. 

She continued, "The connection formed between students and employers is a huge step toward the students' careers. With more employers participating than ever before, these students are able to confidently step into the professional world in whatever industry they desire."
