The upcoming 8th Annual Mardi Gras Parade & Viewing Party is this Saturday, January 18, hosted at and underwritten by the Tremont House, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel. This year’s honoree is our very own Reveille X. The sold-out event benefits the George P. Mitchell Society (GPMS), which provides funding for undergraduate students enrolled at Texas A&M University at Galveston. GPMS is comprised of individuals and organizations committed to the well being of the world’s oceans by supporting marine and maritime research, education, training, and more at the Galveston campus.
Guests at the annual party will enjoy dinner, dancing and the company of the First Lady of Aggieland. Once the Knights of Momus Grand Night Parade begins, attendees will have one of the best views in town, complete with Texas A&M Maritime Academy cadets marching down the Strand.
For over 30 years, Mitchell hosted Galveston’s premier Mardi Gras Ball and Parade Viewing Party at The Tremont House. This event historically coincided with the grand opening of The Tremont House on February 16, 1985. In 2015, this traditional Mardi Gras event ushered in a new era in memory of Mitchell when Texas A&M-Galveston hosted the first official university-affiliated Mardi Gras parade viewing party.
The event is made possible thanks to longtime friends and supporters of Texas A&M-Galveston, especially the dedication of the Mardi Gras committee members Marilyn McFatridge, Phyllis Milstein, Marie Robb and Kelly Teichman.
This event is generously underwritten by the Tremont House, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel.
Beads for sale were donated by Councilwoman Marie Robb.
Details on upcoming events hosted by the Galveston Campus will be available on calendar.tamug.edu.
