Sea Campus Kids

Sea Campus Kids is a marine-oriented day program for campers ages 6-11.  Campers will have their hands-on and feet-in as they participate in activities such as wading through a salt marsh, dissecting a fish or seining in the surf.

Half-Day Workshops: Monday-Thursday Ages 6-10

Morning Workshops: 8:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m.

Afternoon Workshops: 12:30 p.m.-4:00 p.m. 

Participants may register for the morning, afternoon, or both programs offered. Campers enrolled in morning and afternoon workshops will stay during lunch. 

Full-Day Workshops: Monday-Wednesday 9:00a.m.-3:00p.m.

Beginner Ages 6-8;    Advanced Ages 9-11

Registration Fee: There is a $10 non refundable fee for registering your camper. This is due to a internal registration site fee. The $10 is deducted from the total camp balance. This fee is non-refundable.

Registration: A deposit of $30 is required to register for each workshop.

Cancellation and Final Payment: The deposit may be refunded or applied to another workshop up to four weeks prior to the start of the workshop by contacting the Sea Camp office to confirm the change.  Full payment and updated medical information is due four weeks prior to the start of the workshop.

Something Fishy's Going On!  (8:00 AM - 11:30 AM) $175

Advanced Workshop for ages 9 to 11

Campers must bring their own fishing pole and tackle.

Cast a line into the Gulf and Bay and learn all about the species of fish that inhabit Galveston’s marine habitat.  Learn all about local fishing regulations, fishing ethics, as well as the basics of casting, baiting a hook, and tying fishing knots. This camp will get to fish at various habitats including a pier fishing trip!

 

Sharks, Stingrays, and Crabs (12:30PM - 4:00PM) $175

Discover the amazing diversity of crabs and cartilaginous fishes! Experience a hands-on dissection of a bony fish and compare its anatomy to the anatomy of a shark. Learn all about the blue crab life cycle, then try your hand at catching one!

Marine Biologist Boot Camp (9:00 AM-3:00 PM) $200    

Fall in and join the ranks of scientists who investigate the inhabitants of the oceans. Step in line as you learn how to use a microscope, study the art of dissecting and conduct scientific experiments. Enlistees will work in technical squads to conduct experiments, record data and report findings. The MBBC will include field trips to science labs and local marine habitats and fish and mollusk dissections.

Reef Inspectors! (8:00AM-11:30AM) $175

Coral reefs are extremely biodiverse ecosystems, meaning lots of ocean creatures depend on them. Coral reefs are home to more than 25% of marine life! Thousands of species from invertebrates to marine mammals count on crazy little coral polyps to build complex communities. How do they all get along?? Become a certified Reef Inspector (RI) while exploring the lives of ocean creatures living side-by-side, such as sea anemones and clownfish. Inspection of our amazing coral reefs or “rainforests of the sea” will reveal the freeloaders, the scroungers, the cordial, the aloof, and the lethal!

Ins & Outs of Invertebrates (12:30PM-4:00PM) $175

With 95% of animals being invertebrates, we've got to have their backs! Through dissections, crabbing, and a trip to the salt marsh, you will discover different types of invertebrates and their specific importance in their ecosystem.

Aquatic Animal Vet Clinic (9:00 AM-3:00 PM) $200           

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a veterinarian? Learn the science and skills needed in veterinary medicine to help marine animals in need. Grab your lab coat and let’s explore the many ways Veterinarians can help animals when they’re sick or injured!

The Floor is LAVA!!! (12:30PM-4:00PM) $175

The ocean is an amazing habitat but sometimes it can be a harsh environment. The creatures that live there must overcome some EXTREME habitats! Ocean hydrothermal vents, rapid changing salinity, and extreme temperatures! How do the animals stay safe in these environments? Let’s learn to see how animals that live there stay safe and survive in these intense conditions!

Marine Mammals (9:00 AM-3:00 PM) $200

Enter the wonderful world of marine mammals, our hairy ocean friends & learn about flukes & flippers, baleen & blowholes, spy-hopping & breaching. Compare dolphins & porpoises, seals & sea lions. Take a “close” look at the largest mammal on Earth, study the only aquatic bear, and get to know the clever sea otter. Marine mammal explorers will also learn how to rescue a stranded animal.

It's a Pirates Life (8:00AM-11:30AM) $175

Ahoy me hearties! Take a look back to the life and times of pirates. Learn how they lived and how they navigated the oceans blue. Find out about Galveston’s very own legendary pirate, Jean Lafitte. Use a map and compass to discover the location of buried “treasure” and how to create a map to your own hidden booty while also learning about nautical archeology and science.

 

Megalodon Madness! (12:30-4:00p.m.) $175

Discover the ancient creatures of the ocean like the Mosasaurus, Megalodon, and the Spinosaurus! What did they eat, where did they live? Let's dig in to see how archaeologists and paleontologists excavate and uncover samples of these creatures by practicing on our own beaches! Let’s take a trip back in time to understand the way of life of these fascinating extinct creatures! This camp will include a trip the beach, various science experiments, and a collaboration project with a Texas A&M University benthic paleontology lab.

Megalodon Madness! (8:00 AM - 11:30 AM) $175

Encounter myth and fact in this in-depth examination of the most facinating and misunderstood fish in the ocean. Discover the history of ancient sharks like the Megalodon and uncover how they were like the sharks found today. Dive in hands on to learn about internal shark anatomy, uncovering various shark species, and even create your own shark tooth fossil!

 

Deep Sea Disco! (12:30PM - 4:00PM) $175

There are so many things to see beneath the ocean blue. Come take a journey to explore a multitude or two. Stargazer, oar, and lumpfish just to name a few; we'll learn about why and how creatures live just where they do. What lives so near to the surface it sees the sun shine like a disco ball and what lives in the midnight zone with a  glow that can trick us all? With so much to learn, lets get into a groove and learn all about the deep sea!

2024 Sea Squirt Workshops    

Sea Squirts Workshops are designed with our smaller scientists in mind.  Parents and children (4-5 years old) will discover and explore the marine environment together.  Explorers will make discoveries in the Sea Squirt classroom, exploring local marine creatures and create a product reflecting their adventures in marine science.

Cost: $130.00 per child

Children must be accompanied by a parent/adult caretaker (18+) to participate in the Sea Squirt program. Please register accompanying adult as a participant at registration.
